EXCLUSIVE: First look at Arto Halonen’s eco-sci-fi feature After Us, the Flood, now in post-production

Arto Halonen is putting the finishing touches to his latest feature, an eco-sci-fi tale titled After Us, the Flood, Cineuropa has learnt.
The Finnish filmmaker, active in the fields of both fiction and documentary, debuted with his feature Princess in 2010, a drama that racked up 300,000 domestic admissions and proved to be one of the most-watched films in Finnish theatres that decade. Other prominent works of his include the Finnish-Croatian co-production A Patriotic Man [+] (2013), the psychological thriller The Guardian Angel [+] (2018) and his latest family drama, Arnold Cautious and the Happiness Stone (2023).
Lisa Langseth’s new film The Dance Club has started shooting

The internationally acclaimed director Lisa Langseth's new Swedish feature film The Dance Club has now begun filming. The lead roles are played by Nils Wetterholm and Alva Bratt with Pernilla August, Evelyn Mok, Matias Varela and Julia Franzén in the ensemble. The movie is set to premiere in Swedish cinemas in early fall 2025. Meta Film produces the film with SF Studios distributing the film in the Nordics. REinvent handles international sales.

Kalevala: The Story of Kullervo, based on Finland’s national epic “Kalevala”, is set to start its principal shooting in Nurmes, North Karelia, Finland in September. Antti J. Jokinen will direct the historical drama with Elias Salonen and Eero Aho starring as leads. Johanna Enäsuo and Marko Röhr, at ReelMedia, produce the film. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics with an expected theatrical release in Finnish theatres in early 2026. REinvent handles international sales.

SF Studios announces sequel to Pretty Young Thing Pretty Young Love (Danish title: SMUKKERE), the sequel to the popular Danish youth film Pretty Young Thing (Danish title: SMUK), has started its principal shooting. The film is produced by SF Studios with Marcella Dichmann as producer and is expected to premiere in Danish theatres during summer 2025. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics. Internationally acclaimed director Erik Poppe’s psychological drama, QUISLING - THE FINAL DAYS will be celebrating its international premiere in Toronto in the Special Presentation section.
Gard B. Eidsvold and Anders Danielsen Lie play the leading roles as Vidkun Quisling and the priest Peder Olsen respectively in the story of the infamous Vidkun Quisling, the man responsible for one of the greatest betrayals during World War II.

Copenhagen-based REinvent International Sales has picked up international sales rights to the major arthouse feature “Hana Korea,” based on the true story of a North Korean young defector who tries to carve herself a new life in South Korean society.
The hybrid project, produced by Sonntag Pictures’ Sara Stockmann (“Armadillo”, “Bobbi Jene”) with Seesaw Pictures’ Heejung Oh (“Pearl of the Desert”) is due to start lensing in August on location in Korea.

SF Studios greenlights action thriller The Nation’s Gambit

SF Studios has greenlit the action thriller The Nation’s Gambit (Norwegian title: En nasjon i sjakk) which will now go into production. The film, directed by Jens Lien and based on Norwegian author Johan Høst’s successful crime novel of the same name, will be adapted into a feature film by the Norwegian production company Stig og Stein Studio with SF Studios and Film i Väst as co-producers. SF Studios will distribute the film in the Nordics, while REinvent handles international sales and has now begun pre-sales in Cannes. The film is planned for a theatrical release during the autumn 2025.
