Screen: Reinvent Yellow Sales picks up Stelana Kliris’ Cypriot-UK-Greek drama ‘Apart

EXCLUSIVE: Reinvent Yellow Sales has acquired international sales rights on Apart, the new feature from Find Me Falling director Stelana Kliris.

Currently in post-production, Apart begins in 1974, as young Eleni escapes Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus through an arranged marriage to a fellow Greek-Cypriot in apartheid South Africa.

She begins to build a life with Nico; but an unexpected friendship with a local Black woman reveals a secret from Eleni’s past.

The film is written, directed and produced by Kliris for Cyprus’s Meraki Films, with Susan Simnett and Jamie Harvey for the UK’s Over The Fence Films and Ioanna Bolomyti for Greece’s Atalante Productions.

Palestinian actress Leem Lubany, who starred in Hany Abu-Assad’s 2014 Oscar-nominated Omar, leads the cast, alongside Snowpiercer and Skins actor Luca Pasqualino and Girley Jazama.

The film is made in association with Jupiter Peak Productions and Copper Island, supported by the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture, the Cyprus Film Commission’s incentives scheme, the Hellenic Film Audiovisual Center, Creative Europe, and the SEE Cinema Network.

The film is based on the experiences of South Africa-born Greek Cypriot director Kliris’ parents as refugees. Kliris previously directed romantic comedy Find Me Falling, which launched on Netflix in 2024.

“This is a very personal film for me, but also a story that I believe will resonate in the world we live in today and we are so happy to have Reinvent Yellow on board to bring it to audiences, we know we’re in excellent hands,” said Kliris.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Reinvent Yellow on sales for this ambitious co-production set in the fractured worlds of 1970s Cyprus and South Africa,” said Simnett. “As we lean in to stories that find the universal in the specific, the production stands out for its historical context while maintaining an intimate, emotional core.”

Helene Aurø, chief sales officer at Denmark-based Reinvent Yellow, described the film as “a fantastic love story that feels deeply relevant in today’s world, capturing the fragility of memory and the strength of human connection, all brought to life through incredibly skilled and sensitive direction.”
