The second season of Oxen, one of the most successful Danish series in recent years, is heading towards post-production . The thriller series is produced by SF Studios in co-production with SquareOne Productions and Nafta Films for TV 2 Denmark and ZDF Germany. REinvent handles international sales. The series will be released on TV 2 Denmark this year and ZDF in 2026.
Jacob Hauberg Lohmann stars once again as former ranger Niels Oxen with a returning ensemble consisting of Josephine Park as PET agent Margrethe Franck, Ellen Hillingsø as PET chief Frigg Mossman and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as the business woman Kajsa Corfitzen.
In this season of OXEN, power and betrayal are once again the focal points, as the secret cabal of powerful elites, Danehof, works to bring down the government and overthrow democracy. Both Oxen and Margrethe are forced to go underground, while PET chief Frigg Mossmann gets closer to the goal she has been secretly working towards for some time: exposing the shadowy men of power. Meanwhile, Danehof’s newest member, Kajsa Corfitzen, has her own unpredictable agenda.
Once again, OXEN is written by three-time Emmy Award-winners Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe, based on Jens Henrik Jensen’s bestselling book series. The series has been shot on locations in Jutland, Copenhagen, Funen and Lithuania, and all six episodes are being directed by Søren Balle (Follow the Money, EqinoxX, The Shift).
“The Danes loved the first season, so I’m incredibly happy that we get to share a new season with them. The series focus on power and democracy is as always relevant and important, while season 2 also offers an action-packed story when Oxen leaves the forest and goes on the run”, says Pernille Bech Christensen, Senior Executive Producer, TV 2.
“The story takes off just where we left our characters in the first season. The cat is out the bag and that turns the game board for Oxen, Margrethe, Frigg and Kajsa and how they look at themselves and the world. Within this season, we get to dive more into their backstories, while at the same time, we keep the high pace, the great production value and action sequences”, say Caroline Schlüter and Senia Dremstrup, Producers, SF Studios.
“Oxen 1 has reached a very large international audience so we are thrilled that we will soon be showing the first images for Oxen 2. We are sure that the second season will reach viewers around the world and live up to all expectations“, says Helene Aurø, director of Sales at REinvent International Sales.
“We are delighted to be part of the second season of this hit TV show. The character of ex-elite soldier Niels Oxen has already won many fans in Germany, and we are sure that there will be excitement about new episodes to come“, says Doris Schrenner, Commissioning Editor at ZDF.
“Off the back of a hugely successful Season 1, we are thrilled to be reuniting our iconic trio of characters as they continue the battle to bring down Danehof. This season raises the stakes higher than ever before, and with a familiar foe now in charge, Oxen, Margrethe and Frigg definitely have their work cut out. Audiences can expect more pulse-pounding thrills, gripping intrigue, and compelling character drama”, says Al Munteanu, CEO at SquareOne Productions.
“First season of Oxen was incredibly popular in all the Nordics countries, and the local broadcasters were quick to bring in financing for the second season. Everyone is looking much forward and agrees that the viewers will also love the second part!”, says Mette Vorm, Head of International Distribution at TV 2 International Sales & Coproductions.
