SF Studios and REinvent International Sales announce the psychological thriller Doctor Glas, a modern adaptation of Hjalmar Söderberg’s novel of the same name. The film stars Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Isac Calmroth and Christian Fandango. Triangledrama produces the film together with Unlimited Stories, producer behind this year’s Swedish Oscar Submission Eagles of the Republic. SF Studios distributes the film in the Nordics with REinvent handling international sales.
Gabriel Glas (Calmroth) is a young, lonely doctor who despises the superficial ideals of his time but secretly longs to be part of something greater. When Helga Gregorius (Loch Næss), a celebrated and enigmatic fashion designer, steps into Glas’s practice, his world is turned upside down. Behind her perfect façade, she is a prisoner in her marriage to the award-winning author Patrik Gregorius (Fandango).
Gabriel sees his calling: to rescue Helga from Patrik’s grip. Soon they are caught in a web of lies, desire, and power games. The deeper Gabriel is drawn into his relationship with Helga, the more moral boundaries he crosses. As morals and limits blur, only one question remains: Who is truly the monster – Patrik, Helga, or Gabriel himself?
“We have wanted to explore characters that cannot be placed into simple boxes. The work has been both crazy and exhausting, but that is exactly why the result feels so alive. Doctor Glas is a film that both entertains and raises questions”, say Isac Calmroth and Christian Fandango.
“For me, this film is a dream come true. To work with people you feel safe with and truly like, while at the same time giving new life to such a beloved story, is a gift”, says Thea Sofie Loch Næss.
“With this, my dream project is coming to life. This is a story that really captures what it means to be human today. A film about surface and success, but also about the cracks beneath. It is a psychological thriller, but rooted in a realistic, contemporary, and raw drama”, says Erik Leijonborg.
Doctor Glas is directed by Erik Leijonborg and the screenplay is written by Isac Calmroth in collaboration with Erik Leijonborg. Patrick Ryborn, Unlimited Stories, produces the film together with Christan Fandango and Isac Calmroth, Triangledrama in collaboration with Erik Leijonborg. Ryborn is one of Sweden’s most experienced producers, with films such as Hammarskjöld, the Sune franchise, and this year’s Swedish Oscar submission Eagles of the Republic behind him.
“After all the films I have produced, it is an adventure to take on Doctor Glas – one of Sweden’s greatest novels. With Leijonborg as director and these talented actors, we will create a new classic from an iconic book, a film that will draw people of all ages to the cinemas”, says Patrick Ryborn.
Co-producers are SF Studios, SVT, and Leijonborg Film & TV, with support from the Swedish Film Institute, film commissioner Andrea Östlund. The Swedish theatrical premiere is set for March 6, 2026.
