Reinvent Yellow Sales has acquired the international sales rights to MOMENTUM, a powerful new sports drama from acclaimed filmmaker Jonas Risvig (Kontra, 2024; Salsa, 2022-), starring rising talent David Skytt alongside internationally renowned actor Ulrich Thomsen (The Marco Effect, 2021; The Celebration, 1998).
The film follows a promising young ice hockey player whose dreams of a professional career begin to unravel after a serious injury. Struggling with the weight of his father’s expectations and an increasing dependence on painkillers, he finds himself fighting a battle that extends far beyond the ice rink.
Drawing on Risvig’s own background in ice hockey, MOMENTUM explores themes of ambition, identity and the pressure to live up to expectations. Blending the intensity of competitive sports with a deeply personal coming-of-age story, the film offers an intimate look at the sacrifices made in pursuit of success.
Director and writer Jonas Risvig says: “Throughout my career, I’ve travelled into other people’s worlds, bringing their stories to the screen. But for the first time, I’ve returned home to tell a story that only I could tell. It’s a story rooted in the place where I grew up, where my own youth unfolded, and where I struggled with my own father and the other fathers on the sidelines, much like Oliver does in the film.
Seeing David Skytt and Ulrich Thomsen bring this father-son relationship to life has been incredibly rewarding, and I always knew Thomsen was right for the role. His ability to portray an entire generation of fathers, with all their complexities and contradictions, has been both challenging and inspiring to witness. And with Thomsen belonging to the same generation as my own father, the story has become even more personal to me.”
Synopsis: Oliver Falk is one of the greatest hockey talents. He was raised on the ice by his father – former star player and now head coach Lasse Falk. Now, Oliver carries both a legacy and an ambition: to make a living from hockey and to make his father proud.
But after his shoulder is injured during a match, cracks begin to show. Who is Oliver Falk off the ice? Opioids become a shortcut to maintaining the sport and numbing the pain – both on the ice and in everyday life. When the consequences finally catch up with him, he faces the most important match of his life.
