We are proud to let you know that our action thriller series OXEN has been selected for the Berlinale Series Market Selects, having already recorded impressive audience figures on Danish Television.
The six-part series is based on the international bestseller book series OXEN by Jens Henrik Jensen. It tells the story of veteran Niels Oxen, a former special forces soldier struggling with his inner demons, who is drawn into a series of gruesome murders linked to a shadowy cabal of powerful Danes.
Approximately 1.32 million viewers on average watched the six episodes that have been broadcaston the Danish channel TV 2 since the end of October, making OXEN one of the most successful series on Danish television. The German version will be broadcast on ZDF.
OXEN is based on the book series by the same title, directed by Jannik Johansen (Borgen, 2011) and stars Jacob Lohmann (Shorta, 2020) as Niels Oxen. The series is created by Emmy-award-winning duo Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe. Their partnership began in 2000, writing the critically acclaimed series “Unit One”(2002). The duo is also known for audience hits, “The Eagle” (2006) and “The Protectors” (2010), all of which won Emmy Awards for “Best Drama”. To this day, the book series OXEN has been published in more than 14 countries to great success.
Synopsis
Niels Oxen is Denmark’s highest decorated war hero. While probing into the death of his best friend, who died during a military mission in Mali, Oxen is wrongfully arrested for possession of narcotics. Oxen is dishonorably discharged from his military duties and retreats to absolute seclusion in Rold Forest. Yet when the owner of the forest, Hans-Otto Corfitzen, is found dead, Oxen becomes the prime suspect. However, the chief of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, Frigg Mossman, ends up recruiting Oxen to go undercover against the knowledge of her own organization and suddenly finds himself in the heart of a deadly web of mysteries.
The leading role of the eponymous Niels Oxen is played by Jacob Lohmann (Shorta, 2020). He is joined by Ellen Hillingsø (The Bridge, 2011), Josephine Park (The Investigation, 2020) and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (Borgen, 2022). Theseries was directed by Jannik Johansen (Borgen, 2011; Follow the Money, 2016).
