I Am Curious Yellow
Never before had so much naked human skin been exposed on normal cinema screens and never had sexuality been shown so openly. But underneath all the naked skin is a dead serious and radical scrutiny of the state of welfare Sweden by the beginning of the rebellious ´68 era. By the two “Curious”- movies Vilgot Sjöman – deep inside himself a prejudiced Puritan - focused his curious, and sometimes furious, camera eyes on Swedish society in general. Behind all the naked skin is the story about a young woman (masterfully played by Lena Nyman, awarded many times around for her acting qualities), walking around interviewing people about their opinions on equality, welfare, socialism, class society, democracy and other major issues. Even prime minister Palme gets Lena’s curious microphone under his nose.... During the course of her 'research' she stumbles into Börje (Ahlstedt, today, too, one of Sweden’s finest actors): he becomes her “bed mate no 24”, according to her meticulous filing cabinet.
