Everyone knows everyone in this secluded corner of the Nordic North. But the elements in Utmark are strange and wild, and outsiders don’t always farewell. When an optimistic new schoolteacher rolls in, she is hopeful for a fresh start. But she will soon learn that the only person behaving remotely maturely in this town is a 12-year-old girl.
Through Utmark’s struggling larger-than-life characters, the series is about finding one’s place – whether it is finding yourself after being left by your partner, trying to grow up, moving on after the death of a loved one, or simply getting your dead husband’s soul out of your body through an exorcism. It’s about accepting all of life’s curveballs and touches upon all the aspects that make us human: love, death and cross-dressing.
