Reinvent Yellow Sales is proud to announce that Emilie Thalund’s WEIGHTLESS, Malthe Wermuth Saxer’s LOVE UNTAMED, Nina Knag’s DON’T CALL ME MAMA, and Jeanette Nordahl’s BEGINNINGS have been selected for this year’s Göteborg Film Festival, taking place from January 23rd to February 1st.
WEIGHTLESS has been selected to compete for the Best Nordic Film Award in the Nordic Competition. In addition, the film is also nominated for the FIPRESCI Award, the Sven Nykvist Cinematography Award, the Audience Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film, and the Dragon Award for Best Performance.
Following its world premiere in the New Directors Competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival, WEIGHTLESS has screened at the BFI London Film Festival and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and it also competed in the Feature Film Competition at the Riga International Film Festival.
The film follows 15-year-old Lea at a summer health camp, where a charismatic instructor awakens new desires and sets her on a tender, challenging journey of self-discovery and emerging sexuality. Written by Marianne Lentz and produced by Anna Dammegaard Søllested and Clara Jantzen Kreinøe for Snowglobe, the film stars Marie Helweg Augustsen, Ella Paaske, Joachim Fjelstrup, and Jessica Dinnage.
LOVE UNTAMED has been selected for the Nordic Light section, showcasing distinctive and noteworthy Nordic films, and will celebrate its world premiere in Göteborg. The film marks the first narrative feature by Malthe Wermuth Saxer, previously known for the documentary Silence and Swords (2020) and the short film That’s Amore (2021), which screened in La Cinef at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022.
The story centers on Bjørn who has a special and unconventional bond with his circus dog, Freja. When his family discovers their secret relationship, they separate them, leaving Bjørn filled with shame and confusion. As he attempts to behave like a typical 16-year-old boy, he confronts profound questions about love, acceptance, and how we treat and coexist with our animals.
LOVE UNTAMED is written by Malthe Wermuth Saxer with co-writer Henrik Binger and produced by Daniel Mühlendorph and Robin Hounisen for Hyæne Film. The film stars Oliver Tikotzki, Sonja Richter, and Dejan Čukić.
DON’T CALL ME MAMA has also been selected for the Nordic Light section, and will celebrate its Swedish premiere in Göteborg. The feature previously had its world premiere in the Crystal Globe Competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Eva, a popular high school teacher and wife to the town’s mayor, faces the ultimate test when she falls in love with a young asylum seeker, sparking a forbidden relationship with fatal consequences for them both. The film explores nuances of nativity and exploitation, power and powerlessness, and what appears to be a simple tale of forbidden love evolves into a thought-provoking moral study on cynicism and selfishness masked by generosity.
Starring award-winning actress Pia Tjelta alongside Tarek Zayat in the lead, DON’T CALL ME MAMA is an intriguing psychological thriller from debutant director Nina Knag.
BEGINNINGS has been selected for the festival’s Gala programme. Previously, the film has been screened at the Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama section.
Ane and Thomas are on the verge of being divorced when Ane suffers a stroke, forcing them to stay together and postpone telling their children about the split. Faced with this new reality, the two find hope where they least expect it.
BEGINNINGS stars Trine Dyrholm alongside David Dencik – reunited on screen again for the first time in eighteen years. Their first appearance together was in Pernille Fischer Christensen’s critically acclaimed “A Soap” in 2006 which was awarded a Silver Bear at Berlin International Film Festival.
Reinvent Yellow Sales handles international rights for all three titles.
