THE LAST PARADISE ON EARTH Nominated for the 2025 Nordic Council Film Prize

REinvent International Sales is honoured to announce that the Danish‑Faroese feature THE LAST PARADISE ON EARTH has been officially nominated for the 2025 Nordic Council Film Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in Nordic cinema. This marks the first nomination of a Faroese feature film.

Directed by Sakaris Stórá, written by Tommy Oksen and Mads Stegger, with a story by Stórá, and produced by Jón Hammer, THE LAST PARADISE ON EARTH is a quietly powerful portrait of identity, belonging, and resilience. The film celebrated its world premiere at Göteborg International Film Festival earlier this year.

Director Sakaris Stórá on the nomination: “I am very grateful to learn that our film has been nominated alongside some of the best from the Nordics. It’s hard to put into words how much this means for Faroese film. Our dream has always been to give stories in our native language a place on the big screen. The nomination shows that, even with a population of just 55,000, we have created a film that breaks through language barriers, touches the heart, and makes people feel at home and a little less alone in this world.”

THE LAST PARADISE ON EARTH taps into something deeply Nordic. It’s a quiet, yet powerful story about choosing to stay when everything urges you to leave — a film that almost whispers softly, but stays with you”, says Helene Aurø, Sales and Marketing Director at REinvent International Sales.

In this poignant drama set on a remote Faroese island, young Kári lives a modest but contented life in his small village alongside his sister Silja, quietly grieving their mother’s death. He works at the local fish factory – the community’s lifeline – but when it faces closure, the fragile ecosystem of their world begins to unravel. Most of the island’s youth dream of escaping, yet Kári chooses to stay and confront the changes head-on. Determined to preserve both his family and hometown, he stands firm in what he considers the last paradise on Earth.

THE LAST PARADISE ON EARTH is produced by Adomeit Film and Kykmyndir with support from the Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn, DR – Danish Broadcasting Corporation, the Faroese Ministry of Culture, Creative Europe and the Faroese Film Institute. REinvent handles international sales.
