REinvent International Sales has picked up the upcoming action drama STRANGER directed by feature film debutant, Mads Hedegaard for Motor. Set approximately 4000 years BC, STRANGER is a raw story about survival at all costs – a nerve-wracking drama about revenge, survival and forgiveness.
The pre-historical action drama, STRANGER presents a unique look into the transition from Hunter Stone Age to Peasant Stone Age with a Pre-Indo-European language, which has been developed exclusively for this film to ensure authenticity.
Synopsis
When the 19-year-old girl Aathi and her family, as the first farmers ever, arrive in what is now known as Denmark, her family is killed by a local tribe of hunter-gatherers. Alone in the vast and eerie forest, Aathi and her brother are forced to live with the tribe that killed their family and learn their traditions in order to survive. But gradually, the demands of what Aathi must submit to, become more and more ruthless. And in the end, it is clear that there can be no peaceful solution to the first and biggest culture clash not only in Danish but in European history – and Aathi must decide if she will take her revenge.
Rikke Ennis, CEO at REinvent says: “STRANGER is one of the most spectacular projects I have read for a very long time. An action drama set in the Stone Age is definitely an impressive ambition and one I am sure Motor will execute to perfection.”
“We are thrilled to be representing STRANGER and I am certain that the film has great potential to travel. The script has a fantastic balance between action and dramatic elements – and I look very much forward to speaking to buyers in Cannes about the film.” says Helene Aurø, Sales and Marketing Director at REinvent.
With a suspense-driven storyline, STRANGER is the first Danish feature film to take place in the Stone Age and features rising star Angela Bundalovic (Copenhagen Cowboy, 2022) as Aathi, alongside Danica Curcic (The Chestnut Man, 2021) in the role as the leader of the hunter-tribe.
STRANGER is directed by feature film debutant, Mads Hedegaard, who previously distinguished himself at home and abroad with his documentary film “Cannon Arm and the Arcade Quest” (2021). Mads Hedegaard has co-written the script for STRANGER with Jesper Fink (Margrete – Queen of the North, 2021, Before the Frost, 2018).
STRANGER is produced by Andreas Hjortdal for MOTOR ApS in cooperation with REinvent Studios and in co-production with Maria Ekerhovd for Mer Film, with support from Danish Film Institute, The Norwegian Film Institute, Nordic Film and TV Fund, Creative Europe MEDIA Programme, DR, NRK, SVT and YLE. The film is distributed in Denmark by Scanbox Entertainment. REinvent sells the film internationally.
Shooting start is set for July 2023 and the film is expected to be released locally in Autumn 2024.
