A SÁMI WEDDING SELECTED FOR TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2025

REinvent International Sales is proud to announce that the gripping drama series A SÁMI WEDDING has been selected for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2025, where it will premiere in the Primetime section of this year’s festival—a global platform celebrating outstanding episodic storytelling.

The selection of A SÁMI WEDDING in TIFF’s Primetime lineup underscores its powerful storytelling, complex characters, and rare cultural lens. Festival programmers highlighted the series for offering a fresh, authentic Sámi narrative with broad international appeal, emphasizing identity, tradition, and communal tension.

We are honoured that A SÁMI WEDDING will screen in Toronto. This series is more than a family drama—it is a celebration of Sámi heritage and modern identity, transcending cultural boundaries and becoming a universal human story,” says Rikke Ennis, CEO of REinvent Studios.

I’m extraordinarily grateful that A SÁMI WEDDING has been selected for Toronto. I can’t wait to show an international audience the dysfunctional family that has been living inside my head since 2019. I hope that both the humor and darkness in the series will connect with the audience”, says the series creator Åse Kathrin Vuolab.

In the small Sámi town of Kautokeino, Garen is at the bottom of the social ladder. Trapped in a loveless marriage, she pours her energy into helping her unappreciative family. When her son is to marry into a wealthy reindeer-herding family, Garen sees a chance to lift her status by arranging the perfect wedding. Garen must recruit her siblings: the gay artist Henry who hates everything Sámi, the outspoken addict Belle and the village fuckboy Johan. The whole of Kautokeino watches while the dysfunctional siblings arrange a wedding in record time. What can go wrong? Spoiler: Everything!

A SÁMI WEDDING comes from acclaimed Norwegian production houses Mer Film, known for powerful dramas like Sentimental Value (2025) and The Ugly Stepsister (2025), and Tordenfilm, celebrated for series such as Valkyrien (2017) and Made in Oslo (2022).

This highly anticipated series transports viewers to the heart of Kautokeino, a vibrant Sámi town nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Norway. Here, amidst the rich cultural tapestry of the Sámi people, two families are preparing to unite through the sacred bonds of a traditional Sámi wedding. The series promises an intimate and visually stunning exploration of family dynamics, Sámi customs and the challenges and joys of intercultural connections in a contemporary world.

A SÁMI WEDDING is produced by Mer Film and Tordenfilm in co-production with Forest People for NRK, with international sales handled by REinvent International Sales.
