SF Studios has a focus to ensure a more sustainable and climate-friendly production environment and works actively with Green Film, a rating system and certification that promotes environmentally sustainable productions. SF Studios now announces that its supernatural thriller Cychosis (Danish title: Cykose) is the first Danish feature film ever to achieve the Green Film certification for its sustainable production.
The production team behind Cychosis had a goal from the start to achieve a Green Film certification and made a sustainability plan considering energy saving, transportation and accommodation, catering, materials, garbage disposal and communication.
With the Green Film certification, SF Studios contributes to the European network that develops joint methods to reduce the climate footprint in film production. To ensure a common focus on sustainability, it is essential that production companies share good advice and inspiration with the entire team around the production – film crew, actors, suppliers – and set clear objectives for the production.
Anne Ahn Lund has been a Sustainability Manager at SF Studios since March 2022 with a focus on reducing the environmental footprint of SF Studios’ productions.
“Three things that characterize the success of the sustainable work on Cychosis are good planning, total support from leading functions and a clear distribution of responsibilities. We started to think about sustainability even before the script was finished. By planning so far ahead made it easier to proactively engage the supply chain and motivate functions to think creatively and circularly. All three parts have contributed to greater consensus and motivation to break habits, a clear set of requirements for each individual and the possibility for us to reach our climate goals”, says Anne Ahn Lund.
“It has been a really exciting process, but it also requires extra resources, both in time and money, to constantly think differently and climate-friendly. It was clear to us that there should be a sustainability manager, who paved the way for the many initiatives during the production. It is important to point out that even small measures can create big results”, say Julie Rix Bomholt and Mia Elvstrøm Myrälf, producers of Cychosis.
“Film and TV production leaves a heavy mark on the environment. It is therefore important that everyone in the industry takes responsibility for producing more environmentally friendly. SF Studios has a size where we are obliged to take responsibility for producing more sustainably and support a more sustainable film industry. We are proud to be the first company to receive a Green Film certification for a feature film. But the journey has only just begun”, adds Lars Bjørn Hansen, Managing Director SF Studios Production.
Cychosis is produced by SF Studios by Julie Rix Bomholt and Mia Elvstrøm Myrälf in co-production with Finnish co-producer Aleksi Hyvärinen from Don Films with support from the Danish Film Institute through film consultant Lotte Svendsen, Finnish Film Foundation, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and TV2 Denmark. The film is distributed by SF Studios and REinvent handles international sales.
Cychosis is expected to premiere in Danish cinemas in March 2024 followed by an international release.
About the Green Film certification
Green Film is an international certification scheme developed by the Trentino Film Commission in Italy, which several European film funds use to ensure a more environmentally sound and sustainable film and television industry in Europe. Green Film works with a points system for the certification, which guides the producers to a more sustainable and climate-friendly production.
About Cychosis
Cychosis is based on Birgitte Lorentzen’s book of the same name. Cychosis is directed by Kari Vidø, written by Birgitte Lorentzen and Henrik Kristensen and stars Danish rising stars Zoe Bryan Hertz and August Issac Carter. The cast also includes Maria Rossing, Rasmus Hammerich, Stran Ezgi Benli (Pretty Young Thing) and Oliver Due (Pretty Young Thing).
Cychosis is a dark and intense story about Lulu and Mads, who have both experienced something strongly supernatural. The meeting between them leads to a wild and risky search for answers with consequences for both of them. It is raw realism that merges with a supernatural universe.
