Lisa Langseth’s new film The Dance Club has started shooting

The internationally acclaimed director Lisa Langseth’s new Swedish feature film The Dance Club has now begun filming. The lead roles are played by Nils Wetterholm and Alva Bratt with Pernilla August, Evelyn Mok, Matias Varela and Julia Franzén in the ensemble. The movie is set to premiere in Swedish cinemas in early fall 2025. Meta Film produces the film with SF Studios distributing the film in the Nordics. REinvent handles international sales.

Johannes, an eccentric psychology student, takes us on a twisted journey. Together with performance artist Rakel, he forms an unconventional club with his patients to help them fight back against those who have caused them pain. As the club grows, Johannes struggles to keep it together, while inconveniently falling head over heels for Rakel.

The Dance Club marks the highly anticipated return of award-winning director and screenwriter Lisa Langseth (PureEuphoria) to feature films, following the success of her acclaimed Netflix series Love and Anarchy.

“I have conducted research on today’s wild west of psychiatry while writing the script for the film. With this story, I explore why the number of neuropsychiatric diagnoses is increasing in Sweden, using as much humor as love. I am very happy to create this film with a fantastic team both in front of and behind the camera”, says Lisa Langseth, director

The lead roles are played by the rising stars Nils Wetterholm (CaliphateYoung Royals) and Alva Bratt (Barracuda QueensA Part of You). They are supported by a stellar cast consisting of Cannes Film Festival Award winner Pernilla August (Star WarsThe Best Intentions), Evelyn Mok (Spider-Man: Far from HomeEast Mode with Nigel Ng), Mattias Varela (NarcosEasy Money) and Julia Franzén who makes her acting debut.

Lisa Langseth’s talent, unique voice, and phenomenal ability to find the humor in the absurdity of contemporary life will give the audience an experience beyond the ordinary in The Dance Club. To all Love & Anarchy binge-watchers— fasten your seatbelts, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!!”, says Yaba Holst, Head of Nordic Acquisition, SF Studios.

The film is produced by Meta Film Stockholm and is a co-production between SF Studios, Film Stockholm, Filmpool Nord, SVT and Storm Films. The Dance Club is produced with support from the Swedish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Institute, and the Nordisk Film & TV Fund. The film is distributed by SF Studios and REinvent handles international sales. REinvent will present the first footage of the film during the European Film Market in Berlin in 2025.
