Port Of Call

This is the story of Berit and Gösta. She is a young girl, who has spent many years in reform school and is trying to get a new grip on life. He is a sailor who has returned after many years at sea. They meet and fall in love. Berit is living with her mother, a situation which is slowly becoming intolerable. Her mother pretends love for her daughter, while at the same time doing everything to get rid of her and get her back into reform school. Berit’s friend Gertrud has an illegal abortion. Bleeding heavily, she is thrown out by the abortionist and Berit takes her to Gösta. Gertrud dies in the ambulance. The police threaten Berit with reform school if she does not reveal the name of the abortionist and finally Berit – reluctant whatever the crime to provide the police with information – gives in.Berit and Gösta pick up the pieces of their lives and decide to face the future together.
