Face Of War
The face of Man is not always a pretty sight. Legendary Swedish producer Tore Sjöberg continues - after the success of ”Mein Kampf” - his role as storyteller of the grim history of the 20th century through documentary images. The theme this time is all the wars, from the start of World War I to the Korea war in the Fifties, with a special focus on the alarming development of weaponry and armament technologies - and all the imagination, developed by mankind to destroy itself.A particular highlight of the film is the sequence from Hiroshima and Nagasaki hours and days right after the droppings of the Bombs. During the gigantic research for his films Sjöberg and his team came across clandestine footage, taken by local photographers. The U.S. occupation general McArthur ordered the thirteen reels to be destroyed, but secret copies were made and saved for posterity -through this movie.”Atrocious truths feel almost relieving when put in a real context like here. Information instead of sensation” one Swedish critic commented.
